REVIEW - By Ferdowsi
  WiLkshAkE

Presenting a promotional insight re-view of WiLkshAkE and RPTLN Agenda’s SpitBoss Kin (SBK) Mixtape

Tape Overview:

This tape for me is an accumulation of many styles held within the walls of SpitBoss presented as that seen by the eyes of brothers WiLkshAkE and RPTLN Agenda. The hosts of this tape offer a colourful canvas for the best that SpitBoss has to offer to paint on ,with an underlining of Hip Hop infected with heavy metal, this tape attempts to unite not only artists but minds and bringing forward many styles never seen on the Hip Hop planet! Just what we need to bring us into this new age and decade…….Lets dive in………..

SBK I - Mark Deez, Fatol

First track to light up this fire-work, holding true to the cause and metaphor which is this MiXtAPe, the intro kicks in with a voices going over one another and giving a connection of heavy metal and Hip Hop traditional intro’s meshed together. These first few seconds are a powerful vision into what you will experience here on in……

WiLkshAkE jumps on a beat which is undoubtedly Hip Hop thru and thru with a piano sampled, a somewhat peaceful backdrop to the unique style and energy which is held throughout the entire tape, the lyrics content are wild, flow is crazy, energy is high…

“Like Frankenstein with all the METAL IN HIS HEAD” = a bar to explain this style and what will be brought forth on the tape by WiLkshAkE.

Mark DeeZ - brings you back to the world of Hip Hop and tradition, outlining the reality of Hip Hop and the energy it holds in the heart of the rebellious youth.

WiLkshAkE comes back in, this time with even more energy and a heavy mental type presence to pave the way for Fatol’s final verse, to which Fatol slows down the track and your heart rate to kick a flow to explain his rhymes and passion.

The intro cut presents SBK members Fatol and Mark Deez, both representing the dirty south hip hop scene. Mark Deez reppin Georgia and SC teamed up with Fatol, coming out of the Miami Florida scene. The three MC combo of Wilk, Deez, and Fatol reconnect on track VI. Track ends with a sample from the legendary Bruce Lee Movie titled “Game of Death.”

SBK II - Joe the Butcher

Shot The Devil!

Another piano sampled beat which is more intense than the last, working well with the energy on offer. Members of the SpitBoss community are welcomed into the cipher and lyrics are constructed to outline the energy that is bounced within the walls of SpitBoss. This beat brings out the more MENTAL side of WiLkshAkE.

Joe The Butcher reaffirms the rhymes with his own encounter with the project, with a much more traditional style but taking nothing away from the tradition or passion on offer. Joe the Butcher comes to Spitboss from Virginia, and his grimy style is a great match with WiLkshAkE’s punk rap. Outro chops the words of the immortal Killah Priest!

SBK III - Mark Deez, Doc. ILL

THE Grindhouse Gang (GHG) joins WiLkshAkE on this one with a myriad of instruments and a hard hitting beat. A nice intro and something I must say is very strong on this tape, the use of intro’s and outros. WiLkshAkE gets busy on this one and sticking more to the Hip Hop side of his style on this while Grindhouse Gang bring even more presence on the track with grimy lyrics, Doc Ill presents a diagnosis and prescription to increase the sickness, my own personal highlight to the track. Both Deez and Doc ILL spit that dirty south flavour, representative of their Grindhouse Gang affliation. Deez and ILL are two of three (Powder – track XI) GHG artists appearing on the tape.

SBK IV - Damo, Fatol

Bruce Lee Intro. By now the WiLkshAkE style would have sunk in and continued on here. A hook brought by Damo relating to the MixTape and working with the beat and the female singing vocals work with the concept of soaring high and flying. Damo on this track comes in with an equal presence than WiLkshAkE’s style demands with an honest nature which the beat and track brings out.

“I make crocodile Dundee look like a city slicker”

Fatol keeps on the vibe of the track, very honest and heart opening lyrics exposing the inner essence of the MC, the movement and dream.

SBK V - Kas Solo, Crucifix Payne

Intro regarding circular breathing. WiLkshAkE relates to the intro with his high energy verse, a lot more the balance on this is the metal aspect of the style WiLkShake presents.

Kas Solo, representing Lincoln Park Michigan and one of my favourites on SpitBoss, enters and spins with a verse which also relates to the intro unravelling the lyrics, exemplified by the excerpt:

Traveller of space and time, awake in the mind, But my third eye see’s all, I can’t wait to go blind, Chasing rhymes with thoughts and, often rewind, But most of the time my bars explainin’ why I wrote the lines,

Crucifix Payne, the SBK nazirite scholar, manages to intensify the spinning sensation this track ignites with high octane Mcing of his own style. Crucifix brings a level of spiritual insight that add diversity and a level of lyrical richness to both this track and numerous others on the Bonus disc. The outro connects once back to this and how the bars contain power, like I said, very good use of intro’s and outro’s. Samples speak to the importance of connecting the mind, body, and spirit through the practice of advanced forms of breath training and meditation. The samples are drawn from the teachings of Holotropic Breathing and the works of Stanislav Grof: http://www.holotropic.com/about.shtml

SBK VI - Mark Deez, Fatol

WiLkshAkE grabs the beat and rides it with lyrics pertaining to the concept of the tape and giving empowering words to those on the tape and those listening. As the tape proceeds, this does as well and is a feature of the tape which you won’t hear on many other works. Mark Deez comical intro reflects this and makes his third appearance on the mixtape. His lyrics reflect this and his contribution to this tape and for his passion which is HipHop.

Fatol with his intro brings in concepts of SpitBoss and the collective mission, an echo effect is used to outline the bars. Fatol with another classic verse in this track!!!Intro contains a chopped message from David Icke and the outro is Canibus spitting some facts about what SpitBoss is about.

SBK VII - Damo

HIGH energy track. With Damo and WiLkshAkE present then you shouldn’t expect any less. One of my favorite WiLkshAkE flows on the tape, especially:

“it’s been 20 long years now, that I’ve been stressing, Back in the day, I learn a valued lesson, about aggression, and how it shines……..in a recession”

CHEA, makes you wanna fucking SCREAM! Damo embraces the track with a dark verse yet with still managing his querky flip on the lyrics, especially with the bars:

“you’re embracing a nation of spit boss agents breaking into green lanterns radio station and showin em a REAL invasion, you get slapped to the rhythm of your own worthless beat, that’s for treating a HIP HOP GOD like a circus FREAK!”

Ha. Ha.

“WiLkshAkE can bring the beast out of me like an exorcist”

I won’t quote the whole thing because Damo gets biz on this one and you should check this track, one of the strongest tracks on the tape, it is number heaven so not a surprise. Outro begins with a sample from an old kung fu movie followed by a short sample from an interview with Kool G Rap. Interesting Note: see if you can identify the other famous rap sample that uses the same movie: http://www.youtube.com/v/JJDp4eLcPlI

SBK VIII - LB Productions (scary song)

SCARY SONG! Intro Micheal Tsarion and WiLkshAkE’s echoing vocals. Like the abstract lyrics, slow beat, allowing WiLkshAkE to open up and offer us another side to of his approach to the lyrics.

Outro KRS1, very powerful words from a very powerful MC, again well used and thankfully not the last time he is used for this purpose, his words resonate with SpitBoss and what essence is attempting to be conveyed on this record.

SBK IX - WiLkshAkE

JMT intro, explaining not only JMT’s style but very well also WiLkshAkE’s undoubted meshed style. This track is WiLkshAkE outlining his style with dark beat, then moving onto the meat of the work, talking about members of the site and how they work as well as giving props to Shan51 and getting into the story of what Infinity has been and how it has birthed since. Anyone who’s been a part of the ride will appreciate this track without a doubt for the empowerment of others doing what they love, so its good to see that energy is bounced back. JMT outro, again, links and works with the content and track as well as the artists style well.

SBK X - WiLkshAkE

Consciousness related intro. Metaphoric and abstract lyrics, by now, I am not sure if these tracks were made successively, however, you can hear an evolution in WiLkshAkE’s style and approach and its refreshing to see, you don’t get the same WiLkshAkE on every track and if you listen to this tape you can appreciate that. Intro is presented by Eckhart Tolle: http://www.youtube.com/v/j42cTkiGdXY

SBK XI - Powder, TopAZ

KRS intro, again, powerfully used.

Heavily mental lyrical martial artist haha, yea, that’s WiLkshAkE! An abstract poetic prose is displayed once again for the first verse, ushering the beat for Powder, the third Grindhouse Gang Mc to hit the tape. The diversity of voices and styles on this one are vast and very pleasing. Powder comes in with in comparison silky smooth verse, “with the skill of a hero I’m still part of the problem”, a powerful verse honest to self. TopAZ and his own unique style hailing from South Africa with a spiritual unwinding verse.

KRS empowering outro. Hip Hop legend KRS ONE online: http://www.krsone.biz/ Support the Temple of Hip Hop!!!

SBK XII - Vega X

On this track WiLkshAkE plays with his new found confidence with his sharp tounge to lay down more empowering words for the SpitBoss brethren. Vega X enters the cipher with an angry emotion and movement for an angry and emotional movement and sending WiLkshAkE into a metal Hip Hop meshed higher intensity final verse. Sick track.

SBK VIII - Kas Solo, DW

WiLkshAkE brings the song into motion with a verse describing the average mans struggle with the love of a woman named Hip Hop. Kas Solo and DW continue this trend with this with deep, emotional and personal verses on a mellow backdrop for a beat, describing SpitBoss and how obscurely it will relate with their reality, WiLkshAkE finally returns to clearly bring together the concepts and metaphors described throughout the track while injecting more of a rock metal feel to the track and collaborating this into the essence of the track. I feel what WiLkshAkE does here and with other tracks on the tape is use this duality of style to display and describe the benefits of the collaborations on the MixTape as well as the device used to make this all happen, SPITBOSS! As outlandish and assumptive as this might seem, a listen of the whole tape leaves little to wonder to this conclusion.

SBK VIX – Doc ILL, Kas Solo, Benny Bars

Being the penultimate track on the MixTape, the WiLkshAkE steam train doesn’t slow down here and if anything speeds up for a spectacular and high energy halt to the tape ignited by a David Icke intro which would have any conscious MC of this era ampt-up and ready to rip the beat. Benny Bars brings a verse to bring balance and bring the track back down to earth and speak truths, independence and together collaborative efforts have more love and gain more true back, and the mixtape attempts to prove this. Kas Solo spell bounded bounds the listener to another impeccable verse for the SpitBoss Kin. Doc ILL rippin it as sick as usual, reppin the Grindhouse Gang and his Spitboss Kin Brethren. SBK XV - WiLkshAkE

Finally but undoubtedly not the least, track XV offers strong Intro’s and outro’s in the form of KRS ONE;s wise words, as was stated before, with crippling effect, which props the track for a pedestal that requires WiLkshAkE to be at his best metaphorically, lyrically and conceptually.

“a master of exponents, congruently fluent in substance abuse, oh shit, but she sure is cute, she stole my loot, so I gave her the boot”

Concluding Thoughts:

This tape for the SpitBoss community brings together not only via physical aspects of the rhyme as in terms of who’s on there and why, but metaphorically and conceptually the concept of bringing together new old energies to create completely new ones, much like how one would use crystals and metal shavings to create orgone energy devices. Although a seemingly complex conclusion, one is needed for an all round complex and new sound which is the SpitBoss Kin MixTape presented by WiLkshAkE and The RPTLN Agenda. If you love it or you hate it, no matter what emotion you feel, by the end of the 15 part free rollercoaster ride constructed for your pleasure, you’ll have to admit you’ve never been on anything like it before!
